On Sunday I got my first real chance at photographing people and I didn’t really know what to expect. I had no idea what Meaghan, Serah, and Victoria had in mind, I just brought my stuff, we chose a spot to start shooting in Fish Creek park, and gave it a whirl. The results actually surprised me, I expected my lighting to be evidently terrible even to my untrained eye.

Last Saturday I spent a large amount of time searching around for lightstands to buy, online or looking for good deals. Found a good deal, and the stands were on my doorstep on Thursday.
This Saturday I had a ride to the mountains but no one to ride with so I grabbed my stuff and hoped there would be someone to shoot with up there just stoked to be outside. Amazingly enough there were plenty riders up there willing to shoot, some guys from Gnar Stars were shooting and several guys i didn’t know would be up for the day.

I have been working on a little DIY project over the past months with innumerable failures. It’s a special lens which distorts the image and creates specific blurring. Its built out of an old Mamiya medium format lens and duct tape. (Red Green would be proud) It took me a couple months of failure and frustration before the lens really worked at all, and Saturday was my first real opportunity to try the lens out and see what it does.
