Urban Big Mountain Skiing

December 31st, 2008

Blayne and I have been wanting to get this done for a long time. I’m sure every rider in any sport has a case of line vision, where every place you go you see in how you would ski/bike/skate lines all over the places we live in.

For over a year Blayne and I have been staring at the north sides of the river banks in Calgary seeing lines. Unfortunately the stars hadn’t lined up for us, no snow, snow but too cold, snow but someone was busy. Today, however, there was snow, it wasn’t too cold, both of us weren’t busy and we even got sunshine!

After tracking out our first location we kept scouting around but had trouble finding steep enough, enough snow, or something that would be interesting to ride/shoot.

I remembered years back seeing a video of some mountain bikers dropping off a retaning wall near the Max Bell Arena. We drove over and weren’t really expecting to to be hit-able as he couldn’t pedal into the drop, but there was just enough of a hill to make it happen.

Happy New Years to everyone out there, and best of luck keeping those resolutions. Thanks to Blayne for jumping off stuff for the camera.
